How to capture a Corporate Event

At the start of last week, on May 27th, I undertook a photography project for a prominent client, Solarplaza. The project involved capturing engaging and vibrant images of their conference, which focused on sustainable energy. The event brought together numerous partners, investors, and speakers who shared valuable insights on market progress, new developments, and potential investment opportunities.

The event was held at Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, conveniently located near Amsterdam Central Station. The venue, though impressive, had its challenges, with conference rooms spread out and a tight schedule featuring overlapping presentations. This required me to adopt a mobile and efficient working style. Like they say: A run-and-gun style.

EQUIPMENT

To ensure the images met our high standards, I utilized the following equipment:

  • Canon EOS R6 Mark II

  • Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 RF Lens

  • Canon 15-35mm f/2.8 RF Lens

While this might seem like a minimal setup, the versatility of this equipment facilitated a run-and-gun style necessary for such a dynamic and fast-paced event.

CANON EOS R6 MARK II

The low-light performance of the R6 Mark II was exceptional. While the stages were well-lit, other areas of the rooms were not, necessitating a camera capable of producing high-quality images in less-than-ideal lighting conditions. This prevented grainy images and the need for extensive noise reduction, which can degrade image quality. Below are two images demonstrating the R6’s low-light capabilities.

CANON RF 70-200MM F/2.8 LENS

Regarding lenses, the 70-200mm was ideal for capturing speakers from a distance, minimizing disruption to the speakers and audience. Its f/2.8 aperture was beneficial in low-light situations, providing excellent depth of field. Despite its weight, it proved highly effective. Sample images taken with the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 RF lens are provided below.

CANON RF 15-25MM F/2.8 LENS

Lastly, my favorite lens, the Canon 15-35mm f/2.8 RF, was indispensable for capturing the grandeur of the venue. It was perfect for fulfilling the client’s request to showcase the event's scale. While wide-angle shots can sometimes compromise detail, the 15-35mm lens managed to deliver comprehensive views of the conference rooms. The f/2.8 aperture, combined with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, performed admirably in low-light settings. Below are images captured with the 15-35mm lens.

CONCLUSION

Overall, the event was a success, and both the client and I were highly satisfied with the results. To view more images from the event, please visit my photography portfolio by clicking here.
